just got myself a 1.8t

howdy, just got myself a 99 1.8 turdo gti last week. Did a bit of a deal on the wife's mk3 estate (she'll get over it)

I was a little dubious as it came without wheels or interior so not possible to test drive initially but seems ok. Bodywork a bit of a mess but for what it owes me there's a fair bit in it to sort it. Or just leave it to be honest.

Immediate plans are to find a reasonable interior and wheels (currently rocking a3 fronts and rs8 reps), give it a service and then book it in at www.map-tech.co.uk for a remap.

longer term, slight drop, uprated dampers, tidy body, standardish wheels then more power so it'll keep up with my mk2

it stands me at less than £300 all told.

just trying to work out the best way to go with wheels/tyres/suspension.  I dont want it to be slammed, its just going to be a daily so want it practical and comfy but still want it cool.

thinking a 40mm ish drop, tt 17's perhaps? what size tyres look/feel right on a mk4?

18's are nice but you might find them too harsh depending on roads in your area, 17's nice compromise for comfort vs looks. I've done a bit of reading up as I plan on going over the suspension on mine asap... Eibach pro springs -30mm and Bistein B4 shocks come recommended.

I had 18" on my car when i got it, ride was hard and bumpy. Switched to 17"s muuuuuch smoother ride :)
