« on: 18 November 2012, 21:10 »
I know we arent alowed 'whats it worth' posts, but think this is slightly different.

Ive got a mk2 golf 3dr that has been written off by a pathetic dent on the rear quarter. Its going to be put through a vic test to be put back on the road. I want to know if this is going to effect the price of it when i sell it? as ive heard once a cars been written off once, when its damaged again it cant be put back on the road?

just wondering what you think?

all depends on what category they give it

A or B ( doubt yours will be either ) means it cant go back on the road

C or D ( yours should be either of these ) and it can go back on the road, but with a C or D marker the value will be reduced

And you've involved insurance in that dent because?
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

Car will most likely be a Cat D,    Value wise, the car is what it is, the car doesn't look like a mint example anyway, so I really wouldn't worry about value! Back up any future sale with this pic as evidence, and receipts for the repair...
Insurance wise, you may find that a minority of Insurance may not want to insure the car with a fully comp policy, otherwise you should have no problem...
Also bare in mind that upon repair, the car will most likely have to go for a VIC inspection, and also the car may need to be re MOT'd, regardless of how long is left on the current ticket! add up all the costs, and work out actually how much it will cost to save the car!

My thoughts exactly,  surely it would have been cheaper to get it repaired than pay excess and insurance losses?

He bought the car like it! And someone probably got a nice little claim out of that little dent... for an old car

And OP, I misread your first, but my answer still stands...

Bought it for £240, no tax no mot, going to mot it £40, then get it VIC tested £45, and hopefully make a profit selling it, if not, its being broken... Thats the idea anyway

Good luck with the sale! lets hope it doesn't need an arm and a leg for the MOT!
And... I'd be tying to sell that registration number to "Diamond Hell" :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:
