Clove oil from boots, taste like poo and makes you dribble but will relieve the pain a bit...

I would phone nhs direct, I know in Manchester there is an emergency dental unit at the local hospital. I had an abcessed tooth years ago and they had to remove three back teeth! Not pleasant mate

Best thing I used for an abcessed wisdom tooth is to get a small bit of cottom wool. dampen it a bit. Then mix up a a small bit of bi-carbonate of soda (not baking soda) with an equal amount of salt and mix it up. Half a teaspoon or so of each. Then dab the damp cotton wool in the stuff and place it in between the inside of your cheek and gum next to the tooth. The pain is caused by the build up white blood cells your body sends to the effected area and the this method will help draw the infection to the surface of the gum and relieving the pain. Should start to work in 20 minutes. A small gum boil should appear after a while and will burst on its own. I've had a couple of abcesses and this is the only thing that worked for me quickly as a temp measure. Also loading up on around 2000mg of vitamin C a day will help as they act as a natural anti-biotic.

I feel your pain.
Just had a gum infection due to a wisdom tooth, got antibiotics for it and it went away.
A few days after I finished the antibiotics (last Wednesday) my gum started swelling up.
Since then it's doubled in size and looks like it's a bit bruised.

I rang the dentist but because I wasn't in pain they couldn't get me in until this coming Tuesday, which means paying another £30 for another emergency appointment.

I hope it don't pop on me, feels like it wants to!

Horrible stuff.

Do what I suggesed above, its the only way to relieve the pain of an abcess effectively. If you think about whats happening inside your tooth, the pressure has to escape. An emergency appointment at the dentist will only result in them drilling a hole in it to drain the fluids and sending you on your way, they can't do anything eles until the infection has subsided.
