What might need doing next?
« on: 16 November 2012, 09:39 »
Hi all,

Bought my GTi a few months ago and have been trying to get here running sweet before I start doing performance upgrades. Just had the rear bushes done, major 100000 mile service with all the usual bits, Cambelt and aux belt done, new rear discs and freed the calipers, I'm a novice with cars so local garage did it all for me! Would highly recommended them if people are local to knaresborough!!

Anyways, still a couple of little things with the car I want to sort out but moneys tight, when the drivers door opens, the interior lights don't come and nor does the light at the bottom of the door...passenger side works fine!?!? Any clues on that one??

The light in the boot also doesn't work at the minute but I havnt tried a new bulb in there yet....

Are there any other jobs that could / need to be done before I start to enhance performance?? I think I've covered the basics.....

Cheers for any help....

The door light not coming on, as well as the interior light not coming on is possibly linked to a faulty door sensor.
My parents have a similar issue with their B5.5 Passat, the passenger door doesn't read when it has been opened, unfortunately i have no clue where the sensor is which reads when the door is open or closed.  :undecided:

Lights not coming on will be the door lock module mate. Common fault. Cheap to pick up on eBay around £25 I payed for mine. It's fitting that's the problem.
Sounds like you have done all the important boring bits.
Time for modding to commence lol

Happy days! Next up, saving for mods lol! Will have a look into that door lock thingy but if it's a mission to fit I may have to pay for someone else to do it for me lol

Cheers peeps!

Seein as you have to take the door to bits to fit a new one , may as well repair the old one. I recently did both of mine at no cost, its just the solder that needs redone. Pig of a job but very DIYable. you will need a spline set to get the module out , and patience lol

Ok..... Well seeing as I don't know what a spline set is, don't know what the module is and the only thing I know to do with a door is to open and close it I might give it a miss haha!

Is there a manual for golfs that has this sort thing in it?

Hahaha good answer mate. Dont blame you.
As for manual,no not realy. Only place you should need is the "how to" section and if what u want isnt there then there is links to different sites were u should find the info.

My old Mk4 had 3 faulty modules! Cheap solder cracks, and the microswitches in the module can't send info to the CCM! (Theres 3 switches per module i think) I never bothered with mine, but they can give quite a few problems eventually of not replaced/fixed!

How to guides on here or a google search for Mk4 Door Module Repair should brings loads of info up! It's a very common problem!

Have you had it read for faults? That'd be first on my list. Mk4's have so many 'issues', may aswell see if theres anything else needs doing electrically. Most problems are simple and fairly cheap to sort, so if it has any other faults i'd sort them before modding, no point making the car look good if it's got electrical problems!
