Ipad Dashboard
« on: 15 November 2012, 22:16 »
Considering removing my cd changer and radio from my golf and attempting to mount an ipad mini in the space instead.

I could easily get a stand to shove it in and play audio through my cassette to mp3 and charge it from my ciggarrete lighter but for some reason i feel it would look so much better sunk into the dash.

id have to fit an amp to run the audio and i would still use the cigarrette lighter to charge it but just hide it behind.

have any of you guys tried this or something similar and what are your opinions of it , also how easily do the cd changer and radio remove?

Don't really think it would look good unless you got something custom to make it sit right I would just buy a decent touchscreen double din mate would look better imo. To remove your stereo you just need the keys if you don't have you can get them on eBay for a couple of quid

+1 on whats said above, theres a video on youtube of someone who put an ipad into his dash, made a housing for it from fibre glass, however i think the fibre glass would look crap and only thing i could think you could do to make it look smart is get it flocked/vinyl wrap it.

personally ide go for a decent head unit

so register...
Its quite impressive, if you like that sort of tom-foolery! Basically he has installed 2 iphones and an ipad into an RS4. looks pretty oem. A lot of effort. Personally i would get a decent headunit. well, actually, personally, i had the original headunit with cassette player, which I used! Sad to see it go.

Why ipad? You could install a proper tablet (Android) and run the Torque app on it (can't run it on Apple sh'te as the bluetooth is half arsed or something like that). Its far, FAR more worthwhile doing and is pretty damn cool too.

1.8t aum currently FOR SALE!

as eddie said use the cheapo android tablet (none of this apple sh!t) with the torque app, thats what i did instead of buying a sat nav. £20 for a second hand 7" tablet then free google satnav.
