Gearbox oil leak
« on: 15 November 2012, 22:00 »
I had my car in for a 40k service last week and they found a bit of gear oil on the box, this was all cleaned off and today my car was in for new discs n pads (dont ask) and they found that the box is leaking worse than ever, i told them to leave it alone and will take it to the dealers  car is now 6 weeks out of warranty, whats my chances of the dealer sorting this as a good will ?

Bloody hell Neil looks a right mess underneath, I suppose it depends on what sort of relationship you have with the dealership? I think you can only ask see what they say good luck mate.

This has only started in the last couple of weeks, not a lot on it last week, as i said they just cleaned it off and said will keep an eye on it, took back in today and you can see oil everywhere and even been spraying down the car,
The box or anything to do with the box has ever been touched apart from a DSG oil change about 10k ago, The guy working on the car said it looks like it is leaking from 2 areas, a couple of blanking type plates ?
Will take it to the stealers tommorow and see what they say.

Neil, why don't you have it serviced at the dealers - is it down to cost or don't you trust them?
Just thinking they might be less inclined to give you a good will repair if you don't use them for servicing that's all.

Had the oil n filter changed on the box at 34k

I took it to the dealers today and it is booked in on Monday for them to have a look and investigate the problem, they then apply to VW to carry out the repair work,
The girl in the desk said that she can't see a problem why they will not sanction the work due to low mileage 40k and only 10 weeks out of warranty,
Will see what Monday brings

I have never used VW dealers for car Maintanance, due to bad experiences over the years
Cut too many corners, they are franchised dealers that look at profit before service, I always use approved VW service garages in my case Ricci Concept, far better service,
Never had any issues with any warranty work because of this
