My friends '96 VR has a serious ongoing issue.
He bought it from a guy who stacked the OSF and busted the driveshaft. I've a feeling the previous owner fitted a mk2 100mm flange shaft.
Anyway, after a few months of ownership, my friend had to replace the outer cv joint as the 32mm hub nut sheared off with the end of the cv joint!
A week later and some unusual noises, another cv sheared its outer nut!
I replaced the OSF wheel bearing and fitted yet another outer CV joint.
Guess what?! Yup! Another sheared!
So.....I bought him a known, good, VR OS shaft and fitted it.
He's telling me its still making an unusual noise and he's afraid to drive it as the noises are similar to when the nut shears. We've also fitted new front discs btw.
Any ideas why this is happening?
An independent, local garage have said its because its too low.
I've never heard of a VAG car shearing CVs from being too low?
