locked ecu

hi, ive got a 2011 mk6 gtd and had it in a garage this morning to have a remap done. after they had it on the computer he said that VW have locked the ecu so he cant access it. anyone else had this issue or know what i can do to unlock it?

Pretty much all ECU's since I think EDC15 has been locked.  It takes years to break down the protocols (or they are leaked when the new version is out)

Anything VAG from 2010 with a diesel (except the 1.6 TDI) will have EDC17 and will be LOCKED

My mates 2011 Leon fr had to have the ecu removed to map the car.
