hi  there, ive just bought an 88 16v mk2. the car originally had power steering and has since been fitted with the mk3 golf setup.

when the clutch pedal is down and you turn the steering wheel, you can feel the column grinding heavily through the pedal.

i am told that this is a comon problem when fitting mk3 pas to a mk2? is there a solution to this problem?

cheers

OK, we probably need to know a bit more about your car before anyone can give an educated answer.

Is it a hydraulic clutch?

How do you know it's a Golf3 PS set up?

I'm a bit confused as the pedal assembly, although close to the column isn't really connected to it.

How does the steering feel?
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

cheers for the reply. ive since been sent a link by the previous owner that explains it.

it has the UJ from the mk3 fitted which has a petruding bolt that directly grinds on the pedal when depressed fully. i need to find a UJ from a original mk2 PAS setup or get the grinder out.

i havnt even had a look yet, just though id gather some info first.

other than this, the steering feels great.

cheers anyway
