why does it keep wheel-spinning?!

i have a 2.0 manual cabriolet and its always wheel spinning in 1st and 2nd. Now im no boy racer and dont drive it hard at all. its really annoying because i pull out of a junction and people look at me like im a wreckless driver! Is it just a case of better tyres? The treads are ok on these at the minute.

its this simple. The temperature has dropped making your tyres hard and no grip.

I recommend continental winter tyres.

oh and by the way if its wheel spinning in 1st and 2nd, lift your foot on the pedal. Be gentle with it.

really important also is tyre pressure. What is yours?

they are pirelli p6000's, except i have one on the back which is avon, but dont seem to be gripping very well. i have a few junctions where i live that are steep hill starts and it really doesnt like them! you reckon continentals then? pressures on 38.

Never had continentals. Currently got firestones and I highly rate them as a wet tyre.

Even with the hefty vr lump they do well. Maybe you could benefit with clutch control to prevent spinning?

Had them tyres on my 16v and hated them. Wheel span really easy, under steered a lot. Only had two so swapped them round and put them on the back. Obviously over steered a lot but much better to control. I put them to 29psi. I ended up binning them with plenty of tread and got toyo tr1r's

Maybe get them if they are cheaper.

I used p6000's and found them very bad, especially in the wet. 38 is fine for the front, use 34 on the back. However try lowering the pressures from 38/34 to 34/32. If it helps report back.

I also ran P6000's briefly and found them to be awful.

Without wishing to be offensive, you might need to work on your pedal control. Regardless of tyre brand you should be able to do a wet hill start without spinning up, especially in 2nd gear.

Although I know wheelspin isn't something you want your car to actually do i've found my valver probably the hardest car to get spinning out of nearly all the cars i've owned which is odd considering it's got at least the stock 150bhp?! ...I think something could be wrong somewhere tbh.
