Mk3 golf vr6 help
« on: 10 November 2012, 12:15 »
Hi everyone.

It`s been a loooooong time since I`ve been on here.

various work things and personal stuff too plus house movings.

eventually sold my golf to get a mondeo due to mileage I was doing to work but now not travelling now

based closer to home.

I need some advice as I`m off to look at a mk3 1996 with 78k on the clock but as I`ve never had anything

to do with this model before I`m kinda stuck on what to look for.

I need some help regarding what to look for engine, trans, electrics etc

thanks

The biggest factor on these is hidden rot beneath the gti body kit,  especially if the jacking points are crumpled.

rot under the plastic arches etc if it has them fitted not all vr6's have them fitted and make sure u get to hear the engine from cold buddy, make sure the trip computer says the oil is cold as can rattle when cold. and let car warm up and make sure fan etc all kick in as they should :)

Chain rattle!

Listen when cold and let it get hot.

Take it for a drive when it's hot and listen to a rattle when you hold the car at a steady speed, that's when you should here the chains if there is a rattle.

before you start the car check the short-term running time on the mfa (setting 1)... most people run the car for a minute or 2 before you arrive

Or arrive 1 hour before you said you would
