Hi, had a call from a mate with a mk5 pretty sure its a 1.4 TSI 56 Reg.

Its lumpy at idle and the engine warning light is on, but it revs ok?

He has got the codes read and has got Cam Sensor Retarded P3008 Signal out of scope.

Does this sound like timing? do they suffer with timing issues? im going to take a look in the next hour or 2 and scan it with Vagcom.

He is expecting me to fix it when i know nothing about them

Its got a BMY Engine

ive swopped cylinder 1 ignition coil and spark plug with cylinder 3 and the misfire remains on cylinder 1.

if i go into measuring blocks and to the misfire counter, it orignally showed cylinder 1, counting rapidly upwards, since swopping over the coil and plug it counts but very slow and only to 3/4 now it just showing the odd 1.
But i put this down to the fact the engine has warmed up abit?

im tempted to first try a camshaft position sensor, what you all think?

Well a new VW camshaft sensor didnt fix it

£30 so not the end of the world. bad news is it looks like the timing is slightly out which points to chain...

and it missfires from cold still always cylinder 1. so guessing fuel injector but best sort timing first. Also heard theres a software update for that fault. might be worth a punt

Hi -- I have similar probs with my TSi and I am now thinking VVT or Timing chain stretched. Did you resolve yours?
