Trying the other key was one of the first things I did. I remember my old Civic having a faulty immobiliser chip in the key and would only start with one!
I tried a set of jump leads just to eliminate the battery - but they did nothing. I called my local dealer, who said to get the car to them. After speaking to my wife I then realised I have breakdown cover included with my bank account. VagCom said there was a fault with the Central Electronics module.
I called Green Flag, and within 20 minutes there was someone at my door. He tried jump leads also, and then checked the voltages on the starter motor. He thought the problem was the starter motor - but as the car was under warranty, he called for a tow truck and then left. Within 45 mins a chap turned up with a truck, and winched the car onto the back of it. I assume it's at the local VW dealer now.
One thing I did notice yesterday when trying to start it again was that if I pull my light stalk towards me, the dashboard display crashes and reboots itself.
Luckily, my mother in-law has 2 cars and has lent me one for the next few days!
