There's quite a few local members round the SE/Kent border, but I don't think they post much. Will have to meet up some time, I still got my golf but just bought a 125 YBR bike aswell as I use a train for work from gravesend, except I hate southeastern. You don't happen to know a guy with a modified white TT RS?

Yea we used to go out cruising together with my cousin and mates. He lost a couple of times to my mates yellow evo, think he had some more work done on the tt-rs and is running stage 2 and is now quicker than my mate's yellow evo. But he was only running a standard fq360 turbo mapped to around ~400bhp, a couple of my mates in the local area have picked up 700+ bhp evo9, and we're looking to pit it up against the tt-rs without telling him the bhp lol

I used to go out cruising but most of my mates and relatives drive evo, m3 and scoobys so I used to go out with them.

We haven't been out much his year but next summer should be a good year.

Standard mk4 golf rack at the moment, I'm considering going for the lcr rack but without the power steering I'm not sure if a quick rack would be as forgiving on my arms.

I haven't driven the car yet as one of my hand was covered in power steering fluid so I packed up, went home and had tea. I did however have a quick feel of the steering from lock to lock and it didn't feel too bad (one side was jacked up slightly) I will let you know how it feels on the road tomorrow though.

I'm hoping for more feedback through the steering, it's always bothered me how numb the steering is on the mk4, I've driven quite a lot of different jap cars and with the exception of the civics with the electric city steering, most jap cars provide so much more 'feel' through the steering.

Stage 2... I think his got a surprise for you guys, lets say a full race spec engine rebuild with a tiny bore increase, valves and flaps removed, can't remember what else, but I know its been designed with a increased rev limit too. Not sure if he has got it back yet as I've not been in touch for a while.

I might of met you before, I don't know he use to bang on about some golf and I've seen a few evo's out with us when we met up, I use to go to lakeside and excel alot with him.

Think we need to meet up and want to see your method in madness.

Alright, just an update for those looking to go down this route.
Your initial impression will depend on when you last drive a manual steering car. Mine was 5-6 years ago in a ford escort so I had gotten used to having power steering.

With that in mind, I thought it was pretty difficult to dry steer - I do have quite sizeable arms too...
When your moving above 10 mph you will hardly notice that the power steering is missing.
My main concerns are driving in traffic (under 10mph) and I have yet to try full throttle acceleration of any sort.

It is certainly a more involved process to drive the car.

I will update with pictures and give it a week to adjust.

That sound alright, mine is a race car so it would only be driven on track and around the paddock.
I just want to know how you did it, did you just remove the powersteering pump and lines and that was it or is there other things to do?
Cheers

For the time being I just removed the power steering pump with a shorter auxiliary belt and looped the two lines from the rack with a Y-piece and a breather. I'm going to take the rack off and remove the seal inside tomorrow evening. I'll try and get some pictures up.

It is driveable with the the steering rack looped but it is more difficult than a conventional manual rack because there are still fluids inside and not to mention the pressure build up from the turning action between the seals. But to really convert it to a manual rack the seal does need to be removed which will also reduce steering effort.
