Custom auxiliary belt
« on: 09 November 2012, 11:54 »
Does anyone know of any places to buy custom auxiliary belts locally or within the London/Kent area?
It is for the 1.8t but with an under drive alternator pulley and without power steering or air-con pumps.

Get a old belt and cut it.  Then guide it to the route you want to take and then find a belt within ~5mm of the length you need.

Yes that is how you determine the belt you need.

What I was asking was whether anyone knows of a supplier...

All a supplier will do is get the closest one.  Motor factors best bet to find one right length

Are motor factors able to search their range by spec? (In his case the length of the belt) most struggle to find a part without a registration number let alone a car and even then they still manage to make a mistake.

My local one just looks in labels on belts.

They should be able too, Ive never had a problem, but it depends  on the tool behind the desk and knowledge.

When I've supplied the standard belt number they got a size up and I said roughly what length I want and they sent a few down to the size requested, then I send back the ones not up to size.

Trying to think what motorparts I used near bexleyheath, I'll try and find out of my mate Dan as he'll know.

I've ordered pads and disks for the odd job here and there and they manage to get it wrong even when I provide them with the registration and the size. Sometimes the wrong item is placed in the packaging too which is even more problematic. I'm not sure who to blame more the branch or the depot.

I've got it sorted now though, power steering is deleted, I ended up going Halfords - surprisingly the cheaper option. I paid under £10 and they had a draw full of auxiliary belts for me to try before purchasing. I don't think I have ever been halfords for anything before, but this seems like the few things worth going there for.

Should of mentioned halfrauds the one in Dartford has all belts out on display so you just pick and mix.

At least you will no longer need to go gym without power steering. I'd love to check your car our at some point since your only in temo and I work in Woolwich.

You work in woolwich?! No! I drive past Woolwich a couple of times a week! LOL
I met another member from here with a pd150 and r32 f+r bumpers from Abbey Wood, do none of the local members post?!
I ended up going to the Halfords in Blackfen.
