If I'm honest you'll struggle to better the Passat 4Mo TDI estate and it'll leave you with a lot smaller dent in your finances.  It's a much simpler car, too.

You could even go B6 and have a bucketload of cash left from your budget.  Do you NEED the ground clearance?

Tiguan 170 TDI we drove did 35MPG on a test drive and I wasn't particularly spanking it as it doesn't demand that sort of treatment - it's vehicle as appliance territory for me, whereas the Passat can still be grabbed by the scruff of the neck when needed/wanted.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

Audi Allroad? Quite a few about for your 10k budget mostly between 80-100k miles though, what would you class as starship miles?

consider anything up to 100k

well we got one... 4 year old 4mo 140 2.0TDi, black, tinted mofo windows, full VW sh, new pads and discs, 4 new tyres, full panoramic sunroof, parrot, 510rcd, CC, auto lights and wipers, parking sensors and park assist

drives like a brand new car, cruises really well and returns good mpg

needs a polish, few dents pulled, new wiper blades and alloy refurb... apart from that its all gravy
