Steering problem.... Help me escape the in laws!!!!

I have tried searching for this problem but its hard to know what to type in to the search bar.... So trying to drive the car this morning when I turn left the steering goes really hard like it doesn't want to turn left at all. It's almost like the steering hesitates and I have to turn the steering wheel really hard to get the car to turn... Any ideas?
We are now stuck at our in laws as I don't wanna take my baby in the car.... Any help would be great I don't fancy being stuck at the in laws for much longer!!

power & non power steering - check the rubber boots on end of steering rack, if they twist rip degrade over time they can jam the rack.
power steering - check the fluid level, belt tension
