HELP WITH A LOCKED DOOR

I have a 2006 model.
For the past couple of weeks I have been unable to open the passenger door with the key or from inside.  I have had to take off the inside door panel to get to the lock to just open the door. 
Does anybody know of an easier way to open the door.  Surely for safety reasons there must be a way to open the door manually from outside? 
Does anybody know if there is.
Any help would be much appreciated.  Or has this happened to anyone else?

sounds like your door lock module is broken, you probably want to have that looked at before the door locks itself completely leaving you unable to open it at all inside or out.
