Cold Night lost 2 coils.
« on: 06 November 2012, 00:02 »
I lost 2 (admittedly old) coil packs the other night.. Took all my effort to get the car home. It was a cold night to be fair but I'm just worried that there might be a bigger/worse reason behind a double failure..

Anyway, after replacing the original spark plugs with some nice shiny new champion ones and now having 4 newish coilpacks, is there anything else I should worry about?

Car's a 1.8T AUM with 120,000 on the clock.
I thought Volkswagens were supposed to be reliable?

Not all AUM or AUQ or BAM had coilpack recalls, it depends what revision coilpack was fitted to the car - not specific to engine code. Both myself and a few LCR mates had been declined free coilpacks. Best bet would be to ring up your local dealer and enquire.

For a minute I thought this thread was about birth control in the back seat of your golf on a frost night.  :lipsrsealed:   :embarrassed:

Funny you should bring that up! The lack of space in the back is a perfectly adequate form of birth control!!

Car seems to be running fine asides from the usual 17705 and 17545 and occasional pop from the exhaust. I need to chill the hell out about the car and stop worrying about every little noise!

Two going at the same time could be just down to pure coincidence. I know it wouldn't have fully helped you in this instance, but I always carry a spare coil pack in the car. It would probably be no harm to carry two actually.
