Mk2 driveshaft compatibility?

Hi my mates after a driveshaft for his mk2 driver. Is a Gti driveshaft the same? Straight swop ?

Depends on the age of the vehicle IIRC - pre 90 spec = 90mm CVs and 90 spec = 100mm CVs and if memory serves the 100mm CVs are slightly deeper and the driveshafts accordingly different.

I thought all years of 1.6L Driver had 90mm   (My H reg Driver had 90mm & was definately 90 spec with CE2 electrics etc.)
Maybe your statement is true for the 1.8L version.

I think you may well be right.  90-spec Syncro (effectively a 1.8 Driver front end) definitely has 100mm CVs.

Oh right it's a g reg which is 89 I think he said the flange is 34mm & Gti is 50mm. Basically he needs the shaft specific to his car and can't use a Gti

To confirm you could check on ETKA (sorry, don't have it here) but I think it's likely, from my experiences with driveshafts.... or you could change the flanges on the gearbox.... although that's getting a lot more complicated!!
