Car shaking problem pleas help its driving me mad
« on: 04 November 2012, 20:10 »
Hi all
Well 3 weeks ago my car failed its MOT due to front bushs worn, we was told to replace both wishbones and ball joints along with 2 droplinks..

about a week after  they was fitted, when braking very gently the steering wheel shakes as well as the whole car, i have taken it back to the garage that changed the wishbones. first they blamed the parts i bought said they was cheap and the rubbers are to soft. i dident accept this as an answer so then they tried saying it could be my brakes , which are only 2 months old, and it wasent doing this before i changed the wishbones..

anyway last night was driving arounnd when i heard a loud squeeking noise from my suspenion, every slight movement in the car it made a loud squeek, especially turning right and going over speed bumps, its not just a little squeek either its very loud.

im thinking maybe the shaking and this noise is linked... what can i do, the garage doesent want to know, and other garages dont like to mess with other garages work.

im just fed up with it, i spent £500 getting her through mot , and now i have this very annoying shaking and suspension squeek

Have they done everything up tight :lipsrsealed:

Check it yourself if you got a jack. And kick up a fuss with the garage who fitted it all
I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

Hmmm I don't know an awful lot abot this sort of thing pal However, Shaking while braking can mean a few sorts of things but the most common is wrapped discs. however as you said this has only started happening sine the work that has been carrired out I would be thinking its something lose, and as your applying pressure to the front of the car (when braking) its causing the whatever is loose to shake. This might sound like a stupid question but have you checked that your front wheel bolt are tight?
They would of had to of removed your wheels in order to change the parts to had replaced, and when wheels are removed it is advised that bolts are checked after about 400 miles of driving, I only say this because you mentioned that you have had this problem little over a week after the work was done.

As for them saying, "The rubber is too soft" bottom line is where ever you got the parts from the part would of had to pass certain test/regulations in order for them to be deemed safe for use so thats utter nuts that hes "blaming your parts" as if they would not safe to use, you wouldnt of been able to get them plus he shouldnt of fitted them if they where not safe to use as he as a garage has a certain responseability to ensre all work carrired out should pass and meet certain stardards or hes breaking the law. (Dont quote me on that thought because I could be wrong on this)

Check you bolts but id put at least a good £2 on something is loose :D
(sorry about spelling btw)

Also He said it might be the brakes? Pop to Kikfit they do free brake checks, but dont fall for there "You could do with having this done" :P

Believe it or not after fitting all the parts they dident do the tracking, only realised 2 weeks later when my brand new tyres where wearing down on the outside, so took it to kwikfit to get the tracking done and he said it was 10 degrees out on both sides, and whoever changes the parts should of tracked it.

he also said that would'nt be the reason why its shaking, i have checked all bolts on the wheels, there nice and tight, i just havent got a clue what to do with it, i have 1 garage telling me its the parts and another saying it could be my brakes, but brakes pads and discs are 2 month old. and when braking if it was the brake discs as you slow down you would expext the shake to slow down which it doesent, its the constant speed of shake through the streering not the peddle no matter how fast your going. if you understand me

As it's started after the wishbones were changed, my guess would be the ball joint on the lower arm. Jack it up and rock the wheel top to bottom to check for any play what so ever.

Is it a pitched squeak like a mouse, or more like the creak of a rusty gate?
