Richard - Golf Mk3 GTI 2.0 16v
« on: 02 November 2012, 18:38 »
Hi all,

I have just bought a golf mk3 GTI 2.0 16v! I am not totally new to Volkswagen's owing a 1.0 6n2 polo as my first car.

I have always wanted a mk3 golf and cannot wait to start modifying it how I want, I paid 875 for the car and it come with a stack of receipts and every mot I drove the car 86 miles home and back and forth from work the last few days without a problem so couldn't be happier.

The car currently has 102000 miles on the clock, in the receipts It shows that the engine had a full head rebuild and gaskets and seals replaced in 2010, The story of the car is that it was sat up at the sellers work place for a few weeks he enquired with the guy whos it was and asked if he could buy it, the guy sold it as he thought the timing belt was squealing and it turnt out to just be the fan belt and then sold it to me after tidying it up a little.

My first plans for the car is a full service at the end of the month and possibly a induction kit. However as I know with alot of different cars some people do not recommend induction kits and say de-restricting/drilling the airbox is the way to go, so being new, what are peoples opinions on this?

The golf is in Gun metal grey, Pictures to come soon!

Richard.

sweeet man welcome to the mk3 club (the coolest one).. i got mine about 3 months ago and am loving it. sounds like a good buy!

i prefer a cone filter, a heatshield and a cold air feed from the grill below the bonnet. sounds good and should give you equal if not more power than a panel. can be cheap too, grab a second hand cone from ebay! mine was £15 :)

here's my humble diy job.. you won't see in these photos but i've got two pipes i got from the scrappy feeding cold air from below the bumper

Seems like a lot of work for little return, does this mod actually improve performance? , or just noise?
I just got my mk3 last Saturday

it's a definite performance improvement over the srock airbox and paper panel that I had before. I enjoy a good bit of bodging too so didn't seem like work for me :)

For best results, use a stock airbox, that's been smoothed on the inside, a new stock pannel filter or a KnN/ pipercross pannel filter, with a cold air feed into the box, it's been proven with dyno tests to prove it, cone filters are a waste of time.

Welcome along btw, 16vs are a lota fun!!
