Standard size GTI Monza wheels
« on: 02 November 2012, 08:52 »
Hi All,

I have recently purchased a MK5 gti and am loving it!

However I have a question, the previous owner has fitted 235/35R19 RS6 wheels which look good but when the suspension hits full droop they rub on the arches, I would like to fit the standard size Monza wheels as fitted to a GTI when it left the factory....

What size are they? in addition what size/manufacturer are the standard tyres?

Cheers

Sam

either:

17" or 18" Monza II, 17" are all silver, 18" have grey shadow and are lacquered.

A monumental amount of money. I needed an 18" Vancouver for my Mk6 and the dealers started of wanting nearly £500 for just one rim.

Your best option is to find a set of secondhand wheels and then spend £200 ish on the decent refurb.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I also like the look of the black motorsport wheels, but finding them is proving tricky......

I just bought a set of 4 Monza 17" wheels with winter tyres that had already been refurbished for about £550 on eBay.

Just keep an eye out for something as wheels pop up all the time.

A decent refurb will cost between £200-£300, so you might as well buy new.

After looking at how much a refurb will cost i have totally gone off the idea of monzas, seems like diamond cut wheels are a liability if ever you want to refurb them.

They are a nightmare if you want them to remain diamond cut. I went for an anthracite finish, a lot of people go back to bare alloy and others go for black.

Here's a link to my page where you can see my refurbed anthracite monza's.

Have a look for a post by Red Robin that shows how a decent refurb in two tone can easily replicate the effect of a shadowed Monza II. Look far better IMO and get the OEM wheels not aftermarket. The after market suffer white worm quicker and will need a refurb sooner anyway, plus wont be as well made. BBS or Ronal were original fitment.
