Golf mk4 Steering wheels
« on: 01 November 2012, 08:51 »
I've got an early MK4 1999 that has the 4 spoke steering wheel.

This style.

I want to upgrade it to the newer 3 spoke type, will these fit okay or is anything different? Is the air bag connecter the same etc?

I was also considering an Audi A3 wheel, again though not sure if it will fit and will the airbag connect up alright?

This one.

Thanks

I cant tell as the picture is quite bad quality of the 3 spoke. but if you get a GTI 3 spoke, it is a straight swap, obviously the air bags are differnt shapes to your current steering wheel.

Yep, straight swap.

Pretty much all 3 spoke wheels of the same age use the same air bag too, so will fit. I fitted an R32 wheel to a Mk1 Leon and used the original Seat air bag for example.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Yeah I know it's a different shaped bag, I was gonna buy an air bag with/separately. But I was wondering if the wiring connector is the same for the new shape airbags.

BTW, the 3 spoke is not a new shape. All GTI's had them from 1998.

Cool thanks dude, also not sure why that audi 3 spoke image above has gone so bad quality. Before I put it in the post it was a good quality high res image, though the forum does resize images don't it.
