How much do you think I'll get for my 8v MkII?
« on: 14 July 2005, 14:09 »
I've been offered a very special mini for a very good deal but it would mean selling the golf.

It's just had new shocks and lowered springs, has 135,000 on the clock with full history, recent oil change, recent cambelt and tensioner change. Just needs 2 new tyres and an engine mount. Pics:-

Sounds good to me, I only paid £325 for it.

The special mini in question is a 1996 Cooper Sport 5 in metalic purple. It's number 24ish of a limited run of about 150. It has the 90bhp john Cooper conversion and a Jack Knight 5 speed gearbox as standard not to mention full leather and fat 13" rims (big on a mini!). Rare as hen's teeth and bloody quick.

THey guy who owns it wants a car he can modify and he'll get lynched for ruining that so he wants to do a straight swap for my mini. I'd then sell the golf to fund a little tidy up of the SPort 5 and run it as an everyday car.

I'm no expert on the whole mini thing, but if it's as rare as you say, is running it as an everyday car worth it?

I have found to my expense that not running a mini often enough means everyting falls apart faster than if you thrash it. ALso I'm gonna bebuying a house soon with a garage so it'll be garaged every night.

At the oment this all just an idea and I'm not sure if it will happen. I'm just figurin gout of it's a good idea or not.

That sounds like a very fun mini.
Personally I'd do the swap, especially if it doesn't need money, then keep the Mk2 till you've moved (you'll be grateful of the hatchback's size), then flog it to one of us for decent money and keep that nice mini going.

I'd love a mini, but it's not so practical when you're a 6'2 guy with a drum kit to take to gigs. (Similar problem with Bugs)

From experience I think you may miss the Mk2, depends how much of a mini nut you are I guess !

I'm a proper mini nut. I have oneand the missus has two!!!! I also help start up and run www.minifinity.com which as far as we are aware is the busiest UK mini forum :-)

I used to be into golfs before the minis but I just can't shake the minis from my system no matter how hard I try. If I can keep the golf too I will, I'm just weighing up my options.
