Block 11 for boost

Thanks for the responses guys.

What is the solution then? To replace the actuator? If so, how easy is this to do? Is it a nightmare to get at or quite simple?

I had a gander looking for it: http://www.eurocarparts.com/car-parts couldn't find it on there So tried http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=MK4+Golf+TDI+actuator&_sacat=0&_from=R40 Cheapest item being £10 all the way up to £80 - so quite a range. What would be the correct item for the solution here? Or with something like this would you only buy from VW (& brace yourself for the bending over?)?

Was the turbo a new one or an a 2nd hand turbo? As for approx £500 you could have had a brand spanker.....

You can adjust them and log the duty cycle. You are looking for anything in the 50-75% range when on full chat. Anything over will be working the turbo really hard or the turbo itself might be on the way out

I tried looking for the eBay ad to link you but it's too old now. It was advertised as a brand new one. Correct part number for his too apparently.

My VAGCOM seemed pretty limited to what it could do beyond autoscan. Wondering if it's the USB lead side of it. He's not looking to spend a lot of money on it though, just enough to get it running right.

So are you saying that it'll likely not need replacing & just programming? IF it was to need replacing, is it hidden away & would require the engine ripping out or is it quite easy to get to?

EDIT: Sorry, just seen you said the problem is that it's not set up properly, not that it's faulty. My apologies - full of cold so am quite zombie like at the moment.

You need to log the boost and duty cycle to determine if its faulty or just needs setting up

If it was a new turbo chances are it needs adjustment.  Mine was a new turbo and they are apparently setup from the factory
