Sill covers on or off?
« on: 27 October 2012, 10:30 »
I've just taken the covers off for a pre-winter check and all seems pretty solid down there, there is a hole about the size of a 2p right underneath near the front o/s arch, now would you put the covers back on or leave them off?

The covers are probably the cause of the hole to begin with. Take them of and spray them black  unles you like them colour coded

The paint is in pretty good condition on them and to be fair, one little hole is not bad for 17 years of dirt and salt.

Saying that thought the arch could of rusted inside out?.. The covers are known to hold moister etc thats why ive always removed mine. Waxoil them underneath and paint the visable part of the cill black to imatate the cover so to speak

At least with the covers off i can get in there with a power washer if we get a lot of salt on the roads this winter although i don't really want to paint them as its a bit cold today, is that hole likely to affect the mot as its due at the beginning of december and i could probably get it welded at the same time as it goes in for testing.

If the hole is in the wing part of the cill its not structural so should be ok

I've taken them all off but that stuff they used to stick the trim on is a b!tch to get off, nearly done now.
