MK4 GOLF GT TDI - BONNET STUCK SHUT

hey everyone, quick question....
 
my bonnet on my mk4 golf is siezed shut and the cable had detatched its self, bummer i know. I know i am going to have to remove the VW badge and smash a hole in the plastic cover behind it and acess the catch and cable from there, has anybody ever done this and have any tips please?? thank you
