Can I chip my mk3 gti 16V? All help appreciated!
« on: 24 October 2012, 16:22 »
Hi, I have just seen a mk3 gti 16v that has been chiped to 178bhp.
I was wandering does anybody know if this is possible to do and how much it would cost to do, and a location?
Any negatives to having it done?
Thanks
Chris

Forget 28hp from a chip on a NA car, it's not possible and if it is it'd only be on cars with race engines.

A few of us here run GTI's with chips from pepeoi, a seller off ebay. Mine was dynoed with and without a chip and there was a 9hp difference.

My 16v made 9bhp and that was a custom mapped chip...........

Would you say the extra 9bhp is worth it??

Yes. It's not just 9hp, but more torque, more linear power and also better mpg when driving sensibly.

As Khare mentioned I had a good increase in torque all across the rev range, I can't remember how much without digging the graphs out though.

It made it drive nicer too so yes, I would say its worth it.
