Limits of the THS intercooler
« on: 23 October 2012, 23:06 »
Hey guys just fitted a THS intercooler to my car so I could do Away with the standard SMIC.. My question is what are the limits of the THS intercooler power wise ?

Reason I ask is because I'm gathering parts up to go k04 hybrid with water/meth injection and I just wanted to make sure the intercooler is man enough for it?

Cheers lee

Bigger would be nice, as the twin pass cores are never as efficient, but I'm sure with Meth it'd be OK.

However,

You'll need to do some tweaking to the factory charge pipe at the back of the bay though. The ko4 sits much higher up, and if you're using a relentless manifold (it's pointless doing the conversion if you don't) then it'll stop the oem charge pipes running across the back of the bay.

to be honest with you mate, when the time comes I think you'd be better off selling the THS cooler for good money and fitting a toyosports type B core, as it'd work out about the same price wise in the end, and do a better job.

Another thing to consider, is that the ko4 downpipe exits sideways, and occupies the same space as the stock charge pipe going down past the brake MC.

Enjoy your THS whilst you've on a ko3/s, then ditch it mate. it'll be easier in the long run.
