tomorrow is D day
« on: 23 October 2012, 13:36 »
Tomorrow is officially D (decision) day with my mk3. Its MOT time and my guess is it needs...
exhaust middle and rear box
front brake pads
sill welding
drivers wing mirror glass
airbag light is on
steering wheel not straight (not sure if this is a fail)

not too bad if you can do the bits yourself but the welding, brakes and exhaust i cant do so its going to be at least a few hundred.

will have to decide whether i can afford to keep her on the road or take her off for a while over winter :-(

brake pads aren't that bad to do, give it a go. i went to camberly auto factors, got some bosch pads for £25 and learnt how to fit them myself from here ... http://faculty.ccp.edu/faculty/dreed/campingart/jettatech/Howtochangefrontbrakepads.htm

it's a good feeling when you learn something and it works

Do you have any friends that can help? I could do pads and exhaust in couple of hours at the side of my house.

Mirror glass id just go scrappy and if need be put a wrong coloured wing mirror on!

Or halfords sell replacements

Pads easy

Exhaust should be easy enough with a mate

Steering wheel straighness isnt a problem, but get your tracking done

thanks for the positive vibes, i could give the brakes a go i guess, its hard when you have a 4 month old baby, will have to get a babysitter, cant exactly go see to her with greasy hands! lol.
will update tomorrow with my fail sheet and go from there.

well i have been miss informed then!
got mine back from service about a week ago and they left my airbag light, as 'its not required to work by law' is what the chap said. which i thought would apply to mot?
thought a vw dealership would have known/done better!

If it has it, it has to work... same for fogs. If they there - gotta work im afraid

Baby in car seat snoozing, front brakes are hella easy, easier than the rears

friendly mot guy? you can always wire the abs light up to come on and off
