Broken glass in door mirror
« on: 22 October 2012, 16:50 »
Hoping someone can help with this rather boring question:

The glass is all cracked into pieces where someone drove by and hit the wing mirror....what's the best way of removing the glass and replacing it?

Not had the car long so not sure if the whole mirror housing needs to come off.  I think they're heated on the 2.0 GTI aren't they?   Is there a part number for the near-side side view mirror glass?

TIA

The mirror part will be attached to a black plastic backing, pull the plastic bit and it should click off the adjuster :)

Hope that helps.

Or you could go on ebay and buy the glass with a sticky back and place it straight over the
damaged glass. No need to remove anything as you will probably damage something else while
your removing it as per normal during a simple job we all do

Also a good idea, Tezmax - thanks. I really should get myself a Haynes manual at some point!

tilt it right to one side and get your finger in the open end and pull from the middle, the glass part and backing will come off the unit, thats what I did on one of mine, the other side the housing was cracked so replaced both for some I got on here in my colour

What colour is your car? I have a set of LC9Z heated elec mirrors coming off my GT TDI soon when I get round to fitting my R32's on.
