Water Leak from Doors
« on: 21 October 2012, 10:36 »
Hi. I own a MK2 Golf GTI 1990 3 door . Water leaks from the doors and I know this is the plastic membrane which covers the inside of the doors. I have tried several different sealers to seal the membrane back onto the doors but with no success . It keeps leaking in whatever I have tried because the sealer won't stick to the membrane. I am sure people will have come across this before and I am wondering what people have found helpful? I really hope somebody can help me to solve this problem. It has been ongoing for too long now and any help/advise would be appreciated .

Hi. Thanks for the link and I have checked out the matey-matey link also, however I have already tried duct tape and several types of membrane but the duct tape and/or sealant haven't stuck to the door well enough to stop water leaking through still. Has anybody got any suggestions?

Tuck the bottom of the membrane into the door so that the water is channeled towards the inside of the door where the drainholes are. Then just cover with some duct tape to keep it in place.

that's what i did
used rubble sacks (heavy duty bin bags) to make the membranes with
cut them about 10" up each side
tucked the inner side into the door
fingers crossed hope it works
also painted some PVA onto the inside of the door card to try & seal the card
