Does any1 know if a bora gear shifter and gaitor will fit in a mk3 golf ? i prefer the bora one its smaller, as mine is quite high, and old owner or older than him has an aftermarket gear knob put on... not really fond of it tbh........

i run a mk4 shifter in my S3 mule

i also run a modified Mk4 gearbox (02J)

to get the shifter to work requires quite a bit of modifying as its a bigger unit.. not a simple mod anyhow.

you will also need the 02J tower for your 02A gearbox so the cables will join as its a different set up to the crappy mk3 one

the height of the stick tho, you will find when its in the mk3 its much higher the the original mk3 item, to get round this i cut loads off the shaft and ended up with it like this

Still cool Kells, but I think he mend just the gear knob and gaitor, not  the whole shift setup  :undecided:

If so then it's an easy fit, jus cut the gear stick down a little bit, the fit the gear knob with a jubilee clip

The best way to shorten it is to run a die down the original thread and continue it down the shaft to where is required and then cut the surplus shaft off with a pipe cutter. Much cleaner, easier and accurate.

edit: This said aren't mk4 Golf's and Bora shafts threadless?

Yeah I used a tiny jubilee clip on my modified mk4 gear knob (blue plastic retainer chopped down and core drilled out deeper so it didn't scrape against the roof lining)
