FLUSH.....aaaaAAHHHHHH! Saviour of the universe.
« on: 15 October 2012, 10:56 »
Hi,

Got the usual thing of my oil temp being about 3/4 on the gauge. It stops around 110 but i would really like it running closer to 93-97.

Also my oil pressure light flashes on cold start up.

I was thinking about getting a new rad, oil pump but have been told flushing out all oil and flushing the rad might solve my issues?

Thoughts??

would be good to save some cash if possible.

Thanks,

thats the water temp gauge you are talking about - what oil temp is it running? id be inclined to get a genuine temp sensor and change that first. you can also swap the sensor with a couple of others in the same place to see does that change the needle position.

Oil pressure light flashing could be a dodgy switch or a blocked pick up pipe.

As per the above comments, the issues you mention are probably just down to old sensors. Temp gauge readings vary as the sensor ages, and are only relative. Its not a precise measure of your engine temperature.

If the cooling and oiling systems are allowing normal operation, then its all ok, and you dont need to spend any money. Keep changing the engine oil as frequently as you like without a flush, and it'll be grand.

If your particularly concerned about the oil pressure, either do a pressure test, and/or remove the sump to check the pickup gauze is clear.

Dont worry, something will go wrong soon enough that will require expenditure!

Water light flashes on startup, oil light goes out. You sure your looking at right one?
The light that flashes is in the gauge you thought was oil temp.

cheers for the input guys.

just to be clear, it is the light in the centre gauge.......flashes all the time when starting from cold...only goes off when i turn the car off.

Buzzer of oil pressure goes off if i take a corner too fast.

Engine does seem really hot every time i park up too.

Forget the oil it's coolant you need.

110 oil temp is fine,

oil allways runs hotter than coolant and the oil cooler / warmer   has water going through it at ( or should be at ) 90 ish degrees   so its allways got to be above that,   anyway the temp sensors  usally lie anyway and the mfa isn't really accurate
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
