Worried about Brakes!
« on: 13 October 2012, 11:54 »
My brakes work fine when on flat road, braking harshly or softly.
If I come to a road with a mild amount of small pot holes and try to stop suddenly, it feels like my brakes are hitting metal? I can feel a sharp jolting on the foot pedal, and it bounces up and down and the car doesnt stop! Gets fairly dangerous when an articulated lorry decides to use the same back lanes as you!

anyone have any ideas?

I've replaced the steering arms, arb bushes, top mounts + Bearing, power steering bush, ball joints, lower arms, lower arm rear bushes, track rod ends and have 4 decent tyres.

I'm lost now!

Really? but it doesnt do it over flat terrain, i've read somewhere that it could be because of warped discs?
Just went a brought new discs and pads anyway because mine were looking a little shoddy.
It doesnt stop the car though, almost sent me into tree's serveral times.

you would feel warped discs on any road you drove on if you hit the brakes

righto lol :) Bad design if it is the ABS! causing me more trouble than not having it!
I'll change the discs and pads anyway and see if it helps at all

im assuming you're generally doing lower speeds over these bumpy roads? when an abs wheel speed sensor is about to fail, it'll often start to give 0 readings at low speeds, the abs ecu thinks that wheel has locked up so it applies the antilock system when you hit the brakes. It won't always throw an error code or illuminate the abs lamp on the dash you have to watch for it in the measuring blocks with vagcom
