danny_p is a guru with electrics and even he managed to burn my old 8v ecu beyond repair. It's either a job for a tuner with the proper equipment or nothing.

Believe me, no. Before danny_p had a crack at it I had given it to my electronics teacher at school. Even though he's got 30 odd years of experience in the field he couldn't do it, he said the tracks were very delicate and very small. He said you need a special machine which melts all the connectors at the same time then the chip is lifted out. It's something tuners will have at their workshop, but not something your average electronics shop or specialist may have, and they run the risk of destroying the ECU. You're best off leaving it to a professional.

i've emailed a local tuning shop at thruxton circuit.. see what he says.

just thinking you can get new ecus for about £17 from ebay? might be cheaper to just get an ecu that's unsoldered?

Unsoldered? You mean one with the chip out? Don't think they're sold...And if they are they'll probably be a fair bit more. You then have to solder it in, which is a challenge in itself to avoid any of the many contacts touching. Just give it to a specialist, tough luck that you bought a chip without doing your research first...

Can you recommend anyone ?

No, I've not had to deal with any before, so my suggestions are contact the big names. Carbon, Revo, Rtech, AmD, etc.

Nothing to do with OBD2 or not. 16v and VR6 have push fit chips, so do early 8vs, code 2E I believe. ADY and AGG use soldered in ones.
