Jump starters

To cut a long story short can anyone recommend anything, ideally from personal experience?

There are obviously loads about going from about £25 to £300... Are the £25 actually as bad as you'd expect them to be?

I need it to turn over a 2.8l BMW 6pot which likes to drain it's battery now and then. What sort of amp rating do I need?

Also why do most of them seem to come with air compressors?! I don't need an air compressor. I can afford the 20p charge at the garage to do my tyres.
