G60 throttle body
« on: 09 October 2012, 22:10 »
Hi all

Just started a mk2 g60 build

In my bid to keep the bay as clean as poss I've decided to go drive by wire

The management isn't going to be a problem as I will be running a DTA S40 pro with a STC dbw controller

But my question is the g60 throttle body has twin butterfly flaps a isv and the pipe to recirculate the boost

Now I know I can ditch the isv as the dbw will control the idle

But is there any main reason the g60 uses twin butterfly flaps instead of a single one

And as I won't be recirculating the boost would it be best to put a BOV in to release the excess boost

you talking about the smaller lower one? from when i did my G60 it seemed to be for boost control ie.

at closed throttle it was wide open allowing the boost somewhere to go, (maybe for many reason like to keep a vacuum in the inlet manifold for stuff like brake servo? )

and at open throttle it was closed for obvious reasons

could be talking out my arse though so id get it checked by a pro

Yeah I think I sorted it now if I use a surge valve in line with the 1.8t throttle body I should be fine as the surge valve uses vacuum to open and close, so when the throttle flap closes the surge valve will open

air displpaced by the charger is relative to RPM at high rpm low throttel position the charger is pumping more air than the engine requires  it needs somewhere to go
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

That's why I was looking at fitting this

To go with the 1.8t throttle body
