GAP insurance - who ?

Hi.

My next door neighbour's car got stolen last night even though we live in a nice area - this is the 2nd attempted theft/theft in the last 6 months and this has made me decide to take out gap insurance urgently just in case - it will be some piece of mind incase some scumbags target my car.

Who do you guys recommend ?  My car is 1 month old - I did not take out the gap insurance with VW as is was very pricey.

Please help, I want to get this sorted asap

Some have a time limit so be quick. I asked in 2010 as i waited along time. In the end i only found one company to take mine on. I know there is a few posts by me on here asking about GAP.

How much was ya dealer quoting as I did it on both for £200 per car. It was on interest free over 10 months so a no brainer.

Bet EVO could do deal for ya?

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

Just emailed the dealer I purchased from on 1st September.

I declined the gap insurance when buying the car but they are happy to still put it through.

Price is £399 but it is 3 years cover, return to invoice from my insurance payout.
Does that sound any good ?  I know it should be respectable in the need of a claim being VW themselves.

I thought insurers paid out "new for old" on cars up to a year old anyway???
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

£400 is expensive. Do a google search cos you'll find it a lot cheaper than that!

Most will give you back to invoice if you take it out within 180 days.
Ala was one of the cheapest when I searched and will also price match plus if you go via quidco you get 11% back. There is usually a discount code flying around the net for them. Not sure if the discount code can be used via Quidco though.
It should be not much over £100.

Also dubber is correct in that most insurance companies will pay out old for new in the first year, so with that in mind I know folk on here have bought their GAP insurance but it doesn't start until the car is a year old so check with your in insurance company.

Can't remember my price but was around £125 return to invoice and I got £25 cash back from Quidco so around £100.

Thankyou for the replies guys and apologies for bringing up a topic that has been covered before  :laugh:

I have 3 choices :

VW Gap cover @ £399 for 3 years now looking unlikley due to the cost as you have noted.
ALA : 4 years cover £ 209
Direct Gap : 4 years cover £ 185 or 5 years cover £ 209.

I am intending on keeping the car longterm ie 7 or 8 years so I want a policy of 4 years or longer as I can now see that this is possible for less than the VW gap cover  :evil: I am torn between the 5 year with Direct Gap or the 4 year with ALA.  Upon looking more at depth, ALA has UK based underwriters where D/Gap are Gibralter based.  Alsothere is no Glass guide max payout clause with ALA but there is with D/Gap.

Decisions decisions  :whistle:
