I am in the process of selling my Mk3 GTi 8v as i have just bought a MK4 1.8T and the guy i bought the car off, gave me a OBDII code reader/scanner.
My mate has also a MK4 1.8T that is always going wrong and we plugged it in today, and sure enough it lit up like a xmas tree with codes. But, when the scanner asks you to "delete" the codes, will it reset the code that you are trying to reset or will it do much worse??.
The paragraphs in the instruction manual read....
8, If you wish to erase the DTC(s) or exit to the nest system, then press and release the SCROLL button. The LCD will read "ERASE?" for your selection.
CAUTION: Erasing the Diagnostic Trouble Codes allows the Code Reader to delete not only the codes from the vehicles on board computer, but also "FREEZE FRAME" data and manufacturer specific enhanced data. Further the I/M Readiness Monitor Status for all vehicles
monitors is reset to not RUN or not COMPLETE status.Do not erase the codes before the system has been checked completely by technicans or yourselfDoes this mean it will FUBAR the ECU or will it just reset the codes?

The other question i have is. I'm thinking of buying Vagcom for my car and would like some feedback as to which i should buy......or is there only 1 to buy. Only thinking of doing the stuff like miles to empty and stuff like that at the minute but would also like to know what sort of other stuff i could do with it.
Cheers in advance.
