hi
I have just bought a gorgeous mk3 8v 2.0  golf and love it to bits. Alright it aint mega fast, but i've still got my mk2 16v for a bit more fun.
Anyway, when I'm flooring the mk3 it goes fine, then when i quickly change gear and boot it the car holds off for about half a second before accelerating. This happens in all gears, although there are no flat spots thereafter. Any ideas? Maybe it's just due a tune up on the rolling road ...

Oh dear . . Go on then VR6, let it rip, 8 valve not a GTI, etc, what do you expect, etc, blah de blah . .

Seriously though badboy, I gotta 8valve and the only times this has happened is when going from 1st to 2nd not really ever been a big problem though as its only happened a hand full of times.  Has it been serviced properly recently?

Has a cam belt been done on it? check the static ignition timing . You'd be surprised how many garages actually f**k it up!

Mine has done it before and after the cam belt got done, like I said though only from 1st to 2nd, when I'm caning it.
Maybe i'm just hitting the rev limiter :P

yeah just had it dealer serviced, cam belt, tensioner an a few other bits (not like the dealers to get that bill up nice and high..)
The flatspot is still there though. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not bothered about making the thing go faster, I like cruisin' nice an slow (don't want to spill the beer etc etc)
Just think it shouldn't really have any flatspots, know what I mean...

by the way,
is it worth a trip to the rolling road, or does the mk3 have an ecu? When I took my mk2 the guy said he could alter quite a lot as there isn't one on there...
(I must get me a haynes manual, but I've only owned this thing a couple of weeks)

rolling road will be a total waste of time on a mk3 golf as they are a ECU, which means you can tamper with f)*k all.

best bet is to mix the oil with grinding paste, this will give you a g-spot instead.

is this a Digifant or a Simos Mk3?
(you can tell Digifant by the Idle valve in the rocker cover)

In my experience the Digifant Mk3 is prone to hesitation, have you checked for air leaks in the breather pipe that runs across the head?
I've seen a lot with a split near the rocker cover inlet.

this is aparently a really common fault on 8v Mk3's.......
I've got the same on mine. Only from 1st to 2nd though.

I think an ECU re-map will sort it
