KJET/ABF Conversion
« on: 02 October 2012, 21:05 »
Hi guys been doing some research on a ABF into my 86 KJET. Found a good conversion http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?133418-Toyotec-s-How-to-install-an-ABF-engine-in-your-Mk2-Golf-Revisit-of-KJet-car-180610/page3     Anyway. As its a straight head and block swap can I use the original loom or do I need the ABF LOOM??? Cheers Jordan

If you use K-Jet, yes - 10-20bhp.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

i did this conversion many moons ago and it was one of the best engines i've run in the mk2, it was the only one i sold without blowing it up and it gave about the same power as the VR conversion i did minus the noise, also if you have the KR you probably get the breather pissing oil into the airbox when rev'd hard, the ABF hybrid never did that and the redline was off the mk2 clocks with mine, lightened and balanced flywheel and polished and ported head and you will wonder why you didn't do it earlier, i also believe the seat ABF has better components in, this is only hearsay and i have never confirmed it but i had the seat engine as it was cheaper, just make sure you remove the blank sensor plugs from the ABF and replace with the KR ones, also don't bother removing the oil cooler housing off the ABF to swap for the KR one as it won't fit and will cost you a new gasket to find that out

Better of using ABF management. Then at a later date you can add standalone for more improvement. Kjet is old hat.

I think you'll find that the Dyno printout on there doesn't give the full picture. If you read carefully he mentions that the co pot and timing  was adjusted to give those outputs and you probably won't pass an idle MOT test as it would be too rich.

With ABF management and an EBay chip you can pass those figures on a healthy engine and still pass MOT test. You'll find that on the site too, was Rubjonny's car.

Kjet needs some quite a bit of tweaking to get it working right on an ABF and will still lean out at the top end because its so crude. And thats if all components are good like injectors.

If you are going to the trouble of doing, it the digi 3.X is a better stepping stone for standalone etc and will work out of the box.

If K jet is better why have i had to replace pistons on K jeted ABF's  but never on an ABF running digi 3.

only reason people use K jet is they are scared of a few wires.   anoying thing is with digi 3 is it dosent like cams much past 266 deg as its a speed density based ecu.  but really need aftermarket box then as K jet cant really cope ether
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Much better in the long run to use the factory management, k jet is old tech now.
