thanks, yeah obviously bought it having been told all the gears are tight and trouble free. I even wrote on the paypal receipt when i paid 'payment for working 16v golf gearbox' so hopefully he will give me the money back from the box.

just had a quote this morning to strip and rebuild my original box for £325 + vat. gonna have to do it i think as ive already spent out a few hundred on labour so would be money down the drain otherwise.

it certainly would of been cheaper to buy another one but then could of had the same problem!
my gearbox hadnt failed completely but was popping out of reverse and clanking.
ive had it done now, cost £525 in total  :shocked:
it does feel lovely now though.
paypal have said i can have a refund but have asked me to post the box back which i cant do as its been chucked :-( i do have a receipt saying it was knackered from the gearbox place though so who knows, will just see what happens with that.

well it would be however its going to cost me another couple of hundred for the mot now the exhaust has rotted!!  :evil:
very expensive mk3! it will be pretty much a brand new car after ive finished replacing everything!
