Big debate. S3 or One X
« on: 02 October 2012, 00:09 »
Now, before you start redirecting me to previous threads, I know, I've read them, I prefer the HTC One X.

The problem is though, I'm on my second One X now as the first suffered from a stuck pixel and gps issues. The second is also got gps issues. Basically it'll find where you are, but it'll move around your area. If you put a speedometer it'll read between 0 and 3 or 4 mph. I've sent it off to HTC for repair and it was "repaired" but it's come back the same, so tomorrow HTC will be getting an earful over the phone. I've given up on the HTC, as it seems the GPS issue is very very common and a lot of people have it. I think I'm going to ring vodafone and tell them I want an S3 instead. What's your opinion guys? I love the One X, I think it looks the business and I love sense and the One X's features, however the reliability is just pants and I've given up hope with it. Would you give a 3rd HTC a chance or go straight for the S3?

Just done a load of S3 reading and I think I'm going to go for it. On average the reviews are better, battery life is a hell of a lot better and it doesn't suffer as many hardware issues as the HOX does (wifi grip of death, GPS issue, yellow screen tinting). I'll give VF a ring tomorrow morning and change the phone.

You may have a problem with Vodafone, it takes 3 returns within 3 months for HTC to accept defeat and give you the money back from your "purchase" - not sure how much they give you back (IE full price of what it was worth, or what it's worth now, or what they want). I very much doubt Voda will "upgrade" you to the S3 as it's a more expensive phone.

oh and GPS lock is within seconds on the S3!

Spoke to VF just now and the man said they can't swap my contract over to S3. He's sending me a brand new phone which will arrive tomorrow so we'll see if the 3rd phone still has the GPS issue. If it does still have the issue they will be getting told where they can shove the phone and I'll cancel my contract, because he told me neither HTC or vodafone are aware of any common issues with their phone...They must be joking.

Called VF again just now and was told to call back tomorrow after I receive the HOX and arrange for a replacement with the S3. WIN!

Install a different Launcher do get rid of the Samsung TouchGizz default launcher and install a theme like Jelly Bean to get a "Vanilla" like experience. Good thing is that you keep all the other features Samsung put into the phone, like SmartStay, but get a better Launcher. I'm using Apex free one, but Nova is meant to be good ( I bought it the other day, just haven't bothered trying it out yet )

Kinda in the same shoes here mate...on Thursday I was contacted by 3 network and offered a HTC One "free" of charge and one month free line rental which is usually £31. So without much thought I took the offer up but after reading up more on the  flagship HTC handset I became more aware of its downfalls, especially the poor battery life from a non changeable unit.
Also the fact that it had also lost its ability to accept SD cards was very disappointing. WIth this I rang them back within a couple of hours but apparently the order had already processed for delivery.
The only thing I could do then was wait for it to be delivered then return it so what they then offered was a second replacement contract with the Galaxy S3 instead which i opted for. Both handsets arrived by courier yesterday and im glad i had both to closely compare with each other to be honest, both are very nice but for sheer quality and tactile feel the HTC wins hands down apart from sharp edged and protruding camera on the rear. On first impressions of the S3 i thought it seemed rather cheap and plasticky until id fitted the battery and clipped the back cover on but this is soon forgotten once you switch it on. Truly superb and an absolute joy to use and transferring all my data etc from my HTC Sensation quite literally could not have been easier utilising its SD card port.
Day 2 and loving it so far.

The big battery pack for the S3 looks intriguing albeit around £100!

^^ Good choice, I'm really glad I chose the S3 after all the HOX issues I've read about

I got the Zenis dock, which was actually for the SII but the SIII fits it perfectly without a case and if you remove the rubber liner it will fit with some cases like the sline wave grip

I've got a dual layer case (Gel liner/polycarbonate shell), but it adds so much bulk it makes the phone less of a joy to use and hold - it also doesn't fit the dock with this thick case on. No doubt it will do a better job of protecting the phone from a drop, but still makes it less enjoyable to use.

Some battery packs aren't that expensive, though I'd think twice about using a after market battery in a £500 phone!

this looks the most promising because you only plug it in/add the bulk when you absolutely need the power boost.

*Other docks and accessories are available.
