Does this mean I'll have to start paying fines for private parking tickets?

Yep and the old " just don't pay " brigade will be fcuked as they will just send the fine direct to the registered keeper

True, but it's still a civil matter (breach of contract) as before, and they will still have to take you to court (as before) to get their monies.

Paying a token amount or telling them to "see you in court" still applies.

The problem is they will just instruct a debt recovery firm to Chase you down and if you don't pay you will prob get issued with a CCJ! Then your credit rating is fcucked!

I wonder if the fines will have to be capped if you get a ticket?

fines are still uncapped (£150 at my local supermarket now!!)... and why would you get a CCJ as that would mean them having an expensive day in court where they would most likely loose (especially if you offered them the lost revenue! of let's say £1!)

I've never understood the concept of clamping. If they don't want you to park there, then by clamping you, they're forcing you to continue to park there - defeats their argument.

yes but it also relieves you of £150 to find out what its like to park there... which makes it viable to park on someone elses land.
