Standard springs specific to aircon fitment..
« on: 27 September 2012, 16:22 »
Hi, not been about for a while admittedly..
Anyways i'm going back to stock suspension and just looked at two variations of front spring that my vw dealer ordered in, just to see what the differences are.
One is for an air con fitted Mk3 (as is mine) and the other is none aircon... as far as we could see the only difference is that the air con spring is about 15mm taller.

The reason for all this is that i don't like the bigger arch gap at the front, so i really want the none aircon spring to hopefully balance the stance but...
What am i getting into?  because i've been reading some posts on weight transfer/braking/front of vehicle load etc..
The aircon apparatus is all more weight on the vehicle obviously,

What do you knowledgable guys think?

Sorry to rattle on

Nothing to worry about. Get the normal spring.

Never heard that they are different springs due to AC

Check part numbers with the vr6 standard spring.

Thanks.. yep i've given them the nod for the normal spring now so it's done i guess.
I'm a bit of a regular at my dealership, had a thorough look at the details on screen and well ..they've never been wrong, there was more than 2 options as well.. different part numbers and apparently noted by the different purple/yellow dot markings on the spring.

I seem to remember some dealer bloke telling me when i first got it, the aircon ones sit up a bit higher.. thought it was folly!
It's only money eh

That's a new one to me as well, I guess it makes sense seeing as the front end would be slightly heavier on A/C equipped cars.

Hehe.. well i'm kinda glad you guys have the thumbs on the shorter spring.

If i still had my original stock springs ( sold them ages ago, wish i hadn't now! ) i could tell you the markings.. but it sounded familiar when the vw dealer mentioned the colour markings, a combination of 3 or 4 purple dots with one yellow dot.

There seemed to be about 7 options on screen.. perhaps relating to VR6, GL, Cabrio i don't know.. possibly even 3 or 5 door, possibly even 4 or 5 wheel studs, i had to confirm a 5 stud vehicle.

My neighbour has an old Driver rotting away doing nothing.. should i be whipping the springs off that!
