OEM window tints for GTI/ED35/R

Im not the biggest fan of different tint levels front to back, personally i rather have legal tint all round as its uniform but having been parked next to an 'R' the other night it seemed balanced under the car park lighting so.....

My ED 35 is 90% i believe on rears but what are front windows?

What is GTI tint front/back?

What is R tint front/back?

No idea on the excact % but my ED30 has the rear ''factory privacy'' glass (as they call it) & from the outsiede it is dark but when inside not a lot of differance. Looks good & i always said i would not bother but it came with the car & i would always have it now.

I've just had the rear windows in my Passat tinted. I want it to be the same as the original privicy glass, so we tested the rear windows on my Mk6 Golf. They were 75% i.e. let 75% of the light through. We also tested a new GTD. This also measured the same, but looked darker. Most probably down to the black headlining.

As for tinting front windows, nothing other than the factory green tint is legal. Some people get away with a light tint if it doesn't look too obvious, but are taking the risk.

I've installed sum custom fitted sun blinds to protect the little one(actually did it before the summer, if I can call it that) and my windows now look a lot darker to factory GTD tints...

They are excellent. I had them in my Passat, but the kids are now 7 and 8 and were moaning about them. I took them out and the car looked all wrong, hense the newly tinted windows.

It says in the VW price list options what the tint level is on the GTI/GT i cannot remember it off hand

IIRC the tints on GTI and GTD models is 80% i.e. only 20% light through but on the ED30 and R it is 90% with only 10% light through.

Fronts are tinted around 20% i.e. let 80% through and this cannot be increased legally

Cheers Buck thats great info. I must have imagined the 'R' i saw was more uniform than my ED35. Car park lighting perhaps making it lighter than it is...

I think it also depends on the car colour and ambient light.

There's a white .:R near me and it looks blacked out all round due to the contrast to the paintwork and its black wheels too but up close you can tell its standard.  When you look through the front you get the effect of the tw windows so 40% in my example above.
