wet passenger carpets
« on: 25 September 2012, 15:52 »
hi all, with the trouble i have had with the 8v i was just about to give up with it till i fitted the sports exhaust and sorted the rattling manifold heatshield and it now sounds like a gti but just one week later the passenger footwell is damp in the front and back after the weekends storms. i know some of the issues of leaks but which are specific to the passenger side? the car also has a sunroof and i dont have any steaming windscreen issues.
thanks
Adam

Sun roof drains need unblocking. There are 4, 1 on each corner.

as i am on hols in cornwall surfing ive only managed to open the sunroof and have a look. the holes are visible but a bit dirty round the edges, what can i clean this out with and how far does the drain go and where would it overflow into the car?

the headlining has some minor staining so its either been.damp before i got it or its definitely the issue now however is there anythibg else it could be?

I feel more inclined to help a fellow surfer.

You can do two things. One take of the headlining and pull the tubes out blow some air down there with a compresser.

Or you could spray carb and brake cleaner down there and pour some water in. Open the doors and you will see a little black nipple, this is where the water drains from. I just gave it a good fingering! but you can also use pipe cleaner, or something soft not to damaget the tube.

Carpets - basically take the front seats out and the centre console, lift rear seat squab and prise up inner cill kickers.

Headlining take off/realease door pillar plastic covers, dont have sunroof so guess there must be something around that. Or go ask kempie he just did his!
