Questions about inducting and lowering.
« on: 24 September 2012, 23:27 »
Hey guys,

Im considdering Inducting my AUM, Im at the moment researching, Id like to know that once the standard air box is removed, what happens with the AIR pipe that connected to the bottom of the stardard air box then feeds into the Secondary pump?

Also I have seen many different types of inductions done, from the long silver pipe leading by the bumper to cut down versions of the pipe where the filter sits near the batt.

What I have made my mind up with is I want a RED filter, and I would like some kind of metal tubing coming off the MAF. I would also like a heat shield and a cold air feed leading to the filter to avoid Heat soak.

As for budget, I don't want to spend stupid money but I dont mind spending abit for the right kit, basically I want it to look nice and perform well :)

Secondly im considddering buying a set of JOM's or Weltecs as I have hered great things about both, Im unsure whether im going to buy a lowering kit or coil overs. I have been told Coil overs are a bugger to setup correctly and give a stiffer ride than a lowering kit. But i have also seen that lowering kits seems to be more expensive than coil overs?

If i say got a kit, is there anything else I need to buy/replace to go with them for anything?

Sorry for the questions but this is not something I have done before and would like as much information as I can get before i spend my moolaaars :)

Thanks guys.

Not being funny Nino Judging by the amount of your posts on here i thought you would know there is a search button!!! Not being a cock but there are hundreds of threads on both points you have asked Most will tell you the best induction is a panel filter and r32 air intake... if you go for a cone there are heatshileds on ebay that fit a mk4 or you can buy certain cones that come with heat shields either you wont see much gains but some better note!!!  Secondly theres a huge difference between weitecs and Jom coilovers so its up to you do you wnat quality or just something that works  Weitec are betetr than joms but they are about 3 times the price for that reason a lot go for joms as they do the job... Its entirely up to you.... Try the search bar theres heaps on info

To be fair I did use the search but didn't find the answers to my questions in specific e.g I have seen alot of people prefer a panel filter and r32 intake but I was asking information on cones, what is good and what to stay away from in that genre. I understand welter are better but why are they better and why do lowering kits cost more than coilovers when they do less of a job, also I wasn't sure weather beside buying a lowering kit/coils if I had to ensure something else was brought, replaced or changed. Sorry if you feel I have been lazy and not looked but I have just not found the correct answers to my in depth questions lol :)

A good panel filter will be just fine, ie k and N, pipercross etc. If you want noise however, try a cone filter with heat shield. Some put the cone right down at the bottom of the bumper, but theres a risk of sucking water (puddles floods etc). If you buy coilkovers or lowering springs then get new top mounts as they dont come with them. Lowering springs tend to give a less harsh ride than coilies, so that would be my choice. If you want stiffness  :embarrassed: then I think its worth shelling out for weitecs (not that expensive for the quality) I would avoid JOMs altogether, but if you dont mind the bumpy ride then they are fine and will make your car look good for little money. Good luck

As said. Get a panel filter, preferably pipercross or green cotton. If you want noise go to R-Tech and get one of their induction kits.

Suspension wise. AP/Weitec/KW. Koni kits are meant to be decent too.

This is my induction kit.

Parts altogether came to £90.

Sounds decent with the dumping noise of the Dv (standard one atm) and you can hear it sucking away like a prostitute on a saturday night.

you can either fit a smaller breather filter to the end of the pipe or do what i did and connect it back into the pipework using the silicone hose and adapter provided.

ive heard the ECU's prefer it to be back into the air induction but am sure both work.

Thanks guys, I'm currently using a piper cross panel but I want a nicer sound and sound frm the dv but if I do it I dnt want heat soak so yea a heat shield is something ill invest into. Gary cheers for the pic, when u say that other pipe do you mean the one that connects to the secondary air pump? Also where did you get your metal tube frm may I ask?

Ill do more research into lowering thanks again guys

Coil overs are easy to set up mate you"ll regret not buying them as you"ll always wana go lower :) and I'd drill standard air box and add a panel filter it what I've done lazy way I know but it sounds good and looks neat and tidy still :)

yeah i meant the oil breather pipe or whatever it is.

the tubes a £50 CAI kit from ebay for the mk4 gti.

and my one doesnt suffer from any heatsoak at all where it is and gets a decent amount of air because the filters built into where the old standard cold air induction ducting is.
